Assumptions Flashcards
BH Assumption 1: humans are born like a blank slate
All learning comes from interactions with environment.
Not born with inbuilt mental content or think of behaviour, simply respond to env. Stimuli. (Environmental determinism)
We learn associations early in life e.g. dentist= pain, & learn through reward and punishment.
BH Assumption 2: behaviour learned through conditioning
2 types of conditioning, classical & operant
Classical: learning through association, first introduced by Pavlov & dogs
Operant: learning through positive/ negative reinforcement.
BH Assumption 3: humans and animals learn in similar ways
behaviourists believe studying animals allows us to make generalisations on human behaviour. (Pavlov > Albert).
Skinners rats led to token economy in schools & prisons.
