how do you differentiate between acute and life threatening asthma

life threatening asthma will have... <33% PEFR cyanosis bradycardia confusion feeble respiratory effort increasing CO2

ABCDE assessment
oxygen mask 15L non rebreatheable mask
IV access and fluids
sit upright

what tests can be done
A
Xray to exclude pneumothorax, pneumonia, effusion
ABG
bloods- to check FBC, UandE
CRP and sputum to check for infection

medications that can be given
A
salbutamol 5mg nebs back to back
ipratropium bromide 500MCG nebs
hydrocortisone 200mcg IV, or prednisolone 40mg orally

what else can be given
A
mg sulphates Iv 2 gram over 2 mins
