Asthma and COPD Pharmacology Flashcards
Anti-IL-5 antibody drugs
Mepolizumab, Reslizumab
Anti-IgE-antibody drugs
Omalizumab and Dupilumab
Leukotriene receptor blockers
Monteleukast, Zafirlukast
Leukotriene synthesis inhibitors
Zileuton
B2 bronchodilators
b2 specific, quick onset-short duration: Albuterol, Terbutaline
b2 specific, slow onset-long acting:Salmeterol, Formoterol
Cholinergic antagonist bronchodilators
Atropine, Ipratropium both no specific, Tiotropium (M3), Umeclidinium
How do LABAs inhibit TH1 differentiation
Increasing GATA3 transcription to TH2
B agonists adverse effects
Hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, hypok QT prolongation, NV, dec paO2, agitation
Action of cholinergic antagonists
Reduce airway smooth muscle constriction
• Decrease mucus secretion
• Reduce airway remodeling (Tiotropium)
• Enhance b2-mediated bronchodilation
Adverse rxns of cholinergic antagonists
Pupillary dilation and cycloplegia, on contact • Constipation • Urinary retention • Tachycardia • Confusion
Methylxanthines
Aminophylline and Theophylline
Methylxanthine actions
• bronchodilation • anti-inflammatory effect • + inotropic & chronotropic effects • inc CNS activity • inc gastric acid secretion • weak diuretic effect • inc skeletal muscle strength (diaphragm)
Cromolyn sulfate actions
• Inhibits degranulation of mast cells in the lung
• May alter the activity of chloride channels
• Inhibits the inflammatory response by acting on
eosinophils
• Inhibits cough by their action on airway nerves
• Reduces bronchial hyperactivity associated with
exercise- and antigen- inhaled asthma
Glucocorticoid actions
Decrease the production of inflammatory cytokines and activate anti-inflammatory genes • Reduce mucus secretion • Reduce bronchial hyperactivity • Enhance the effect of b-2 adrenergic agonists
Glucocorticoid major adverse reaction
Cushing syndrome
