Short acting beta2 agonist
Rescue therapy only
MOA - stimulates beta-2 receptors in the lungs causing relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle resulting in bronchodilation
Side effects – tremor, shakiness, lightheadedness, cough, palpitations, hypokalemia, tachycardia, hyperglycemia, tachyphylaxis (diminished effect with increased use)
Inhalation kinetics –
• Onset bronchodilation: 5-15 minutes
• Duration: 2-6 hours
