what is the doppler effect?
an increase (or decrease) in the frequency of sound, light, or other waves as the source and observer move towards (or away from) each other.
what is red shift?
the shift in wavelengths of light toward the red end of the spectrum as an object moves away from us in space.
what is blue shift?
the shift in wavelengths of light toward the blue end of the spectrum as an object moves toward us in space.
what is the difference between red shift and blue shift?
As the universe expands, it stretches the wavelengths of light along with it. When an object is moving away from us, the light from the object is known as redshift, and when an object is moving towards us, the light from the object is known as blueshift.
