AT1 Flashcards
(49 cards)
What are the required components for a working circuit?
-Voltage source
-load/components
-closed circuit
Define Ohms law
‘When a resistor is kept at a constant temp, its resistance will remain unchanged.’
How is Ohms law calculated?
Voltage=current x resistance
What is the effect of increasing resistance on current flow in a series circuit?
Increasing resistance decreases current flow
What is Kirchoffs current law
The total current entering a junction in a circuit is equal to the total current leaving the junction
What is kirchoffs voltage law?
The sum of the electrical potential differences around any closed loop in a circuit is zero.
What is kirchoffs resistance law?
In a parralel circuit the total resistance is less than the individual resistor value
What is power?
Energy transferred per second
What is an energy transformation
When a device changes one type of energy into another
What is the energy efficency calculation
useful energy over total energy x 100
What is an energy source?
A source from which energy can be obtained to provide heat, light or power
Energy efficency
% of useful energy from an amount of supplied energy
Law of conservation
Can be transferred useufully, stored or dissipated cannot be created or destroyed
What is energy transfer
The movement of energy from one location to another
What is sound energy
When sound makes an object vibrate
Chemical energy
Stored in molecules and atoms
What is kinetic energy
A form of energy that an object has because of motion
What is thermal energy?
Energy contained in a system that’s responsible for is temperature
What is light energy?
A type of kinetic energy with the ability to make light for the human eye
What is elastic energy
stored in an object due to force temporarily changing its shape. E.g. stretching
What is GPE energy
The energy an object has due to its position above earth
What is electric energy
Energy resulting from charged particles such as electrons through a conductor
Calculation for kinetic energy
Ek=1/2mv squared
Calculation for GPE
Egp=mgh
