Technique: William masterfully uses an Allusion to say that Juliet’s looks had made Romeo “effeminate” making it seem as Romeo’s love of Juliet is making him weak and unmanly.

Technique: Shakespeare enhances this line with dramatic irony of Tybalt’s naming of Romeo of a “wretched boy” post to murdering Mercutio and putting his family at risk of execution.

Technique: foreshadowing how all future consequences, plans and actions could’ve all been avoided if Juliet had listened to her elders.

Technique: Shakespeare uses Mercutio’s “rapier” to symbolise how the conflict and violence between the two could have been negated if Mercutio had heard Romeo’s voice in this scene.
