Stages of Triangular Trade?
3 stages, First from Europe to Africa, trade guns, clothes and alcohol for slaves. Took slaves to West Indies(Middle Passage) and sold them. Took trading goods and money back to Europe.
Conditions on the Middle Passage?
Disease spread quickly below deck. Fed more closer to West Indies but v little. Thumbscrews and whips for punishment. Dangerous for crew. Tight/Loose pack. Chained together. rebellion led to deaths. Tripping over, too small and smelt bad.
Conditions in Slave Factories?
Forced to walk many days to get there. Thoroughly examined without consent. Chained up against wills. Often beaten by crew. Fed very little. Females often raped.
Impact on Africa?
Wars and kidnapping made Africa more dangerous. White ppl viewed themselves superior. Africa lost 20-30mil ppl. Money gained from slaves led to increase in raids. Famine . Diseases. Lack of men.
Impact on Caribbean?
Many Natives killed. Slave pop created for of rebellion for whites. Slv owners allowed to punish or execute slaves by law. Sugar grown for profit rather than a food source. Land cleared for cash crops. Fear of uprising led to slavery supporting legal system.
