Atomic Structure Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is the mass of a proton/neutron
1.67x10^-27 kg
What is the mass of an electron
9.11x10^-31
What is atomic mass
The number of protons and neutrons combined
What is atomic number
Number of protons
What is atomic weight
The weighted average of all natural isotopes of an element
What did bohrs atomic model demonstrate
Bohr included the idea of energy levels of electrons and that they all have certain orbits
What did the wave-mechanical model have that bohrs model did not
It showed that electrons reside in and electron cloud and that the position of electrons was more of a probability.
What are the four quantum numbers and h what do they show
The principle qn- size of the shells
The second qn - the shape of the subshells
The third qn- energy states for each subshells
The fourth qn - the spin moment of the electrons
What side of the periodic table tends to accept electron and what side tends to give electrons.
The left side tends to give up electrons and are more electro positive. The right side tends to accept electrons and are more electro negative.
