Why does the atom as a whole have no electrical charge
An atom has no over-all charge, because it has an equal number of protons(positive) and electrons (negative) therefore, the charges cancel out
History of the atom
State ?
Dates?
Democritus
JJ Thompson- 1897
Rutherford-1911
Chadwick’s-1932
Today’s
Democritus
Substances are made up of atoms (small indivisible particles)
JJ Thompson
Positive sphere of charge with electrons embedded in it
Rutherford
Electrons orbit a positive sphere (nucleus)
Chadwick’s
Discovered the nuetron
Today’s
Nucleus containing protons and neutrons, electrons orbiting in shells around the nucleus
Where are protons and neutrons found?
The nucleus
What are protons,neutrons and electrons?
Subatomic particles
What are arranged in shells and how do you work out the number of neutrons
Electrons
Mass number - atomic number
How many protons ,neutrons and electrons are in
