Atoms and the Periodic Table by Gabby Flashcards
(16 cards)
What is a neutron?
A neutral particle in an atom, found in the nucleus!
What is an electron?
A negatively charged particle, found in the electron cloud/orbit!
What are most of the elements on the periodic table?
Metals.
What are noble gases?
Elements on the right side of the periodic table that do not combine with other types of elements.
What is the Atomic Number?
The TOP number on an element. It is decided by the amount of protons in an atom.
What is the Atomic Mass?
The BOTTOM number of an element. It is determined by adding protons and neutrons.
How is an Isotope different from most atoms of its kind?
It’s Neutrons are different than most elements.
What is a Proton?
A positively charged particle in an atom, found in the nucleus!
An object that is lustrous, metallic, and shiny, and can is malleable and ductile is…
A metal!
The elements on the “stairs” are….
Metalloids.
Above the “stairs” are…
Non-Metals.
Next to the noble gases are….
Halogens.
To the left of Transition Metals are…
Alkaline Earth, then Alkaline Metals.
To the left of the “stairs” are….
Basic Metals.
In between Basic Metals and Alkaline Earth [Metals] are…..
Transition Metals.
At the bottom of the periodic table, there are….
Lanthanides, then Actinides.
