tx principles

A

avoid exacerbating factors - soap, detergents, dust mites, stress, pollen, mould, pets, pregnancy, foods

emollients - moisturise skin & keeps barrier intact –> reduce flares. may become sensitised eventually

topical steroids - use until flare gone then stop OR weekend therapy

other hospital-based: topical immunomodulators, immunosuppressives, tar shampoos, antihistamines

should i change diet if food triggers present

A

keep food diary 4-6 weeks - change diet under dietician supervision

when using steroids

A

apply emollients first for 10-15 mins. remember to wash hands

SEs thinning of skin // striae // bruising // discolouration // telangiectasia

may trigger/worsen acne/rosacea

may affect children growth
