describe the first stage of attachment in a baby
-Asocial stage
.takes place from 0-6 weeks
.babies display innate behaviours (crying/smiling) ensuring proximity to any potential caregiver
.they will also display these behaviours to non-human objects, as their perceptual ability is limited
.anyone can comfort them, as a preference isnt there
describe the 2nd stage of attachment
-indiscriminate attachment
.takes place from 6 weeks- 7 months
.infants develop the ability to tell the difference between humans and objects also familiar and non familiar individuals
.smiling at people they see more frequently
.dont show stranger anxiety or separation anxiety
describe the 3rd stage of attachment
-specific attachment
.7-9 months
.babies form a strong attachment to a primary caregiver, most often their mother
.stranger and separation anxiety develop
describe the 4th stage of attachment
-multiple attachment

.infant starts to form attachments with other regular caregivers like fathers grandfather and siblings
.stranger anxiety starts to decrease
