Attachment Flashcards
(6 cards)
definition of attachment (ao1)
an emotional tie or bond between an infant and caregiver- reciprocal, 2 sided
definition of interactional synchrony (ao1)
caregivers and babies reflecting eachothers actions and emotions
(synchronised way)
which 3 behaviors show attachment
1) proximity: trying to say physically close to attachment figure
2) secure base behavior: secutiry and reassurance provided by primary caregiver.
3)separation distress: distress when attachment figure leaves their presence
outline research into interactional synchrony (m&m)
research method: observation
aim: examine caregiver-infant interactions
method: adult displays a facial exp. or hand movement - child’s reaction was recorded.
findings: babies mirrored structures.
research support for Melzoff & Moore.
Tronick’s still face exp
results- babies felt severely uncomfortable when ignored, in such distress that they lost control of their spine.
limitations of conducting research on babies
lack of control variables: extraneous factors such as mood, hunger and tiredness- making interpretations less reliable.
