What is attention?

A

The voluntary (sometimes involuntary) tendency to focus on a particular stimulus while ignoring other stimuli. We can only attend to one thing at a time using the same sense.

What is selective attention?

A

Occurs when total focus is given to a stimulus while ignoring other stilmuli. It requires the filtering out of other stimuli

What is divided attention?

A

Occurs when we are required to perform 2 or more tasks at the same time and attention is required for the performance of all tasks. When people are required to do more than one tasks at a time, performance on at least one task declines.

A

The phenomenon where in a room full of stilimuli, an individuals brain is able to focus their attention on a particular stimulus, while inoring a range of others.
