Augoyard - Sonic Terms (2) Flashcards
(43 cards)
Haas
Gap in Perception between direct and refelcted sound
Harmonization
EA- transpose a signal and mix different pitches
Hyperlocalization
When a sonic even focuses the listener’s attention to the location
Imitation
Sound emission which mimics a stylistic or cultural reference
Immersion
constant effect perceived above all other sounds: internal feeling of sonic surrounding
Incursion
Unexpected sound that modifies the listener’s behavior
Larsen
Feedback loop between mic / loudspeaker
Limitation
EA - Preventing sound from exceeding a threshold
Lombard
Greater the intensity of the sound environment, louder a person will speak
Mask
sound which ‘hides’ another sound, partially or completely
Metamorphois
Unstable/changing relations between elements of a sound ensemble
Mixing
blending of different and simultaneous sound sources
Narrowing
sensation that space is shrinking through sonic changes
Niche
Sound emission occuring at the most-favorable moment
Noise-Gate
EA: Intensity threshold below which sound is cut
Perdition
Sound that expresses Dereliction / Loss
Phase
desyncronization of two simultaneous signals
Phonomnesis
an Imagined sound that isn’t actually heard (opp. anamnesis, sound causing a memory)
Phonotonie
Euphoria provoked by sound perception. Reflex or behavior inducing
Print-Through
Pre-Echo caused by tape storage artefacting
Quotation
temporary emergence of sound from a known source
Rallentando
Reduction of speed, also: Ritardando
Release
Residual duration of a sound from cessation until silence/background noise
Remanence
Continuation of a sound mentally after it has disappeared
