GUARDIANS
other work from GUNN
tromio + juliet

GUARDIANS
why was GUNN an ideal fit for guardians?
- secondary comic, not beloved characters
- characters are rouge misfit characters, not stereotypical
- gets more license to do his own thing with lesser known characters
- challenges the rules by combining sci-fi and superhero
- similar to super, Gunn added humor and comedy to the movie
- postmodern: self-reference e.g. kevin bacon and referencing soundtrack
GUARDIANS
collaboration: comics
comparison with comics:
- got rid of uniform
- turned one character into a tree
- kept characters green
he doesn’t have full free rein: he has to work with marvel which weakens the auteur theory
GUARDIANS
collaboration: chris pratt
famous through parcs and rec playing Andy Dwyer: childish, happy character
- got criticised when he announced he would be starlord
- brings a goofy, humerous character e.g. “starlord” // “who”
this also weakens auteur theory, as the success of guardians is also down to the actors in the film
PRIDE
WARCHUS - ‘high art’ stage productions
- made WARCHUS name through directing ‘high art’ stage productions - e.g. hamlet at the barbican
- his debut feature film, simpatico was adapted from a stage play
- directed a lot of shakespeare
- pride is very theatrical: more about dialogue and character
- ‘dramady’ - serious issues treated with ealing comedy - tragedies and comedies are very shakespearian
PRIDE
matilda (2022)
- british film
- musical choreographed dance sequences
- more extravagant
- ealing comedy: laughter from child abuse
- battle between small and big
- almost fantasy like, which isnt typical of warchus
