Laminated, Tempered, OE/OEM, and OEE

Laminated

A
  1. All windshields of made of laminated glass
  2. Consisting of a vinyl layer that is “sandwiched” between two pieces of glass
  3. Safety Features: “keeps objects out and people in”

Tempered (Rescue Glass)

A
  1. All glass, other than the windshield, is usually made of tempered glass.
  2. Safety Feature: When tempered glass breaks, it shatters into many small smooth edged pieces

OEM / OE: Original Equipment (Dealer Glass)

A
  1. Made for replacement purposes.
  2. Installed on the manufactures assembly line.
    (Price and Logo)

OEE: Original Equipment Equivalent (Aftermarket)

  1. Made for replacement purposes
  2. Made of the exact same materials and meet the same federal standard as the OE
  3. Safelite no longer manufactures OEE windshield.

Helpful Hint

A

If the insured requests OE/OEM, there will be special exceptions depending on the insurance client. The OEM parts may not always be approved. Please check Safelite University for the account specific information.
