What is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis?

A

hypothyroidism- lack of iodine uptake destroys cells of the thyroid gland

autoantibodies AND Th1 cells (see DTH; ADCC)

Who primiraly gets hashimotos thyroiditis?

A

primarily in middle-aged women

especially those of Japanese descent (genetics and environmental)

What is autoimmune anemia?

A

autoantibodies to intrinsic factor (needed for uptake of Vit. B12)

What is the cause of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus?

A

CTL attack of pancreatic islet beta-cells

Abs can play a role (C’ lysis and/or ADCC)
