What are Speed proving Train Stops?

A

Automatic Train Stops that provide a speed proving feature. If a train reaches the point of a Speed Proving Train Stop too quickly, the train will trip and be brought to a stand.

You must be at 25km when passing to avoid being tripped.

A

Permanently raised to prevent a train from entering a non-wired section.

What happens when an Automatic Train Stop is vandalised?

A

Occasionally at a signal at Stop an Automatic Train Stop may be upright due to vandalism.

You may have to secure train, take switch stick, and remove an object.
(In reality you would call emergency services)

What happens when there is a defective Automatic Train Stop?

A

If a Train Stop is raised or lowered in contrast to the signal aspect contact TC or Controlling Signaller immediately.

If Signal at proceed and brakes have applied then ‘Tripping in Vicinity of a Signal’ procedure must be followed.

A

Report to TC.

Look for any obvious cause

Reset Trip Valve

Proceed with Extreme Caution until next Signal

A

Stop

Check if derailed

Call the CS, TC via TEC if you can’t contact CS

PA Announcement

Act under instructions of CS or TC - get authorisation

Proceed with Extreme Caution until whole train has passed next signal

Submit Irregularity/Incident Report

Continue to attempt to Call the CS or TC

Do not move train until authorised

Adopt TOTS procedure
