What are Speed proving Train Stops?
Automatic Train Stops that provide a speed proving feature. If a train reaches the point of a Speed Proving Train Stop too quickly, the train will trip and be brought to a stand.
You must be at 25km when passing to avoid being tripped.
What are Fixed Train Stops?
Permanently raised to prevent a train from entering a non-wired section.
What happens when an Automatic Train Stop is vandalised?
Occasionally at a signal at Stop an Automatic Train Stop may be upright due to vandalism.
You may have to secure train, take switch stick, and remove an object.
(In reality you would call emergency services)
What happens when there is a defective Automatic Train Stop?
If a Train Stop is raised or lowered in contrast to the signal aspect contact TC or Controlling Signaller immediately.
If Signal at proceed and brakes have applied then ‘Tripping in Vicinity of a Signal’ procedure must be followed.
What do you do if you observe a damaged Automatic Train Stop?
Report to TC.
What is the procedure for tripping not in the vicinity of a Signal?
Stop
Check if derailed
Make TEC call
PA Announcement
Look for any obvious cause
Reset Trip Valve
Proceed with Extreme Caution until next Signal
Submit Irregularity/Incident Report
What is the procedure for tripping in the vicinity of a Home or Dwarf signal?
Stop
Check if derailed
Call the CS, TC via TEC if you can’t contact CS
PA Announcement
Act under instructions of CS or TC - get authorisation
Proceed with Extreme Caution until whole train has passed next signal
Submit Irregularity/Incident Report
What is the procedure for tripping in the vicinity of any (home, dwarf, automatic) signal with no comms?
Stop and secure train
Check if derailed
PA Announcement
Continue to attempt to Call the CS or TC
Do not move train until authorised
Adopt TOTS procedure
Submit Irregularity/Incident Report
What is the procedure for tripping in the vicinity of an Automatic Signal?
Stop
Check if derailed
TEC call
PA Announcement
Do not proceed until instructed by TC
Once authorised proceed as per R1S3
Submit Irregularity/Incident Report
What is the procedure for SPAD
Stop and secure train
Do not reset trip
Do not move train
Check if train has derailed
Make TEC call
Make PA announcement
Act under instruction from TC or CS
Can back tripping occur on a Comeng?
Yes. If trip isn’t raised during train prep
Can back tripping occur in Siemens and XTrap?
Not under normal operation. They have automatic raising features.
