Autonomic Nervous System! Flashcards
(7 cards)
Nucleus vs Ganglia
Nucleus = within the CNS
Ganglia = outside the CNS
Axonal Varicosity?
Swelling in the autonomic nervous system…
this swelling allows for increased vesicle release along the length of the swelling and therefore can increase the effect.
Used in general systemic control!
Location of parasympathetic neurons?
Craniosacral!
Location is sympathetic fibers?
Thoracolumbar!
What is released by parasympathetic fibers and what receptors do these act on?
Pre and post ganglion…
Pre ganglionic fiber releases ACh onto nicotinic receptors!
The post ganglionic fiber releases ACh onto muscarinic receptors!
What is released by sympathetic NS fibers?
What do these at on?
Pre and post ganglionic…
Pre ganglionic fiber causes release of ACh onto nicotinic receptors.
Post ganglionic fiber causes release of NE onto alpha and beta receptors!
Adrenal medulla is what?
What triggers it and what does it release?
Where does the NT it releases act?
A modified ganglion!!
ACh triggers nicotinic receptors that then trigger the adrenal medulla to release….
Epinephrine from chromaffin cells!
This epi goes into the blood and acts on alpha, beta1, and beta2 (airway) receptors!
