Propeller
Pulls airplane through air
Known as air screws
Fuselage
The “body” of the airplane
Engine
In front of fuselage and provides the power to move the airplane and the accessories such as the alternator, magnetos and vacuum pumps.
Wings
Support airplane in the air
Tricycle landing gear
One frontward nose-wheel and two main wheels behind forming a triangle
Nose wheel
Steers the airplane on the ground and supports the nose of the airplane and the engine
Main wheels
The main wheels are designed to carry the full weight of the airplane on the ground. They leave the ground first on takeoff and touch the ground first on landing.
Tail
Often called the empennage
This is where the vertical stabilizer, rudder, horizontal stabilizer, and elevator are attached to the airplane.
Vertical stabilizer
Does not move but provides a foundation for the rudder
Horizontal stabilizer
Unmoving and attached to the fuselage
Rudder
Steers the airplane through the air
Keep the nose from yawing in the wrong direction
Elevator
Controls nose up or nose down position or attitude of the plane
Ailerons
Make the airplane roll into or out of bank
Sideways lift
Makes the airplane turn
Rudder pedals
Also steer the airplane on the ground
Power
Controlled by the throttle
