B2 Cells Flashcards
(30 cards)
Nucleus
contains chromosomes, which carry genetic info, as to control cell activity. Contains DNA
Cytoplasm
where many chemical reactions takes place. Supports many small organelles
Cell membrane
semi permeable to control what enters and leaves the cell. Holds the cell together
Large vacuole
contains water and dissolved substances together called cell sap. Gives cell support, making it firm and rigid.
Cellulose cell wall
Made up of cellulose, gives strucutral support to the cell
Chloroplast
Contains chlorophyll which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
Mitochondria
where cellular respiration happens. Produces energy
Transmission electron microscope
used to see extremely small organelles inside the cell.
Scanning electron microscope
used to see surface features of a cell or organism.
What is passed through the specimen of a light microscope so you can see it?
light rays
What is passed through the specimen of an electron microscope so you can see it?
electrons
In what resolution is a light microscope
low res
In what resolution is an electron microscope
high res
Maximum magnification of a light microscope
X1500
Maximum magnification of an electron microscope
X500 000
Coarse focusing wheel
focuses light, for the initial focusing of light
Fine focusing wheel
For the final adjustments of focus
Arm of microscope
Connects stage and objective lens
Clip of microscope
Holds the slide in place
Base of microscope
keeps microscope steady and horizontal
Eyepiece lens
for magnification of the specimen
Objective lens
for the magnification of the specimen
Stage of microscope
where the specimen/ slide is placed
Condenser in microscope
focuses light on specimen
