B2.3 Photosynthesis Flashcards
(6 cards)
What does chlorophyll do?
It absorbs sunlight
Which leaf would turn black in a starch test? And why?
a) Leaf in light
b) Leaf in dark
The leaf in the light would turn black in a starch test because it has produced more glucose due to more absorption of light and photosynthesis. Glucose is stored as starch
What are the limiting factors of photosynthesis? [3]
1) Carbon dioxide
2) Light intensity
3) Temperature
How can the rate of photosynthesis in a green house be increased?
By adding light bulbs or by adding in parratin heaters
How do plants produce proteins for growth?
They use glucose and nitrates to produce amino acids which is used for the production of proteins
What is photosynthesis used for in plants? [6]
- Energy
- Proteins for growth and repair
- Making lipids
- Making cell walls
- Making starch
- Used in fruits
