Q

How does producing antibodies protect you against disease ?

A

Some white blood cells produce special chemicals called antibodies. These target particular bacteria or viruses and destroy them. You need a unique antibody for each type of pathogen. They can be made quickly if the pathogen gets in twice. This stopes you getting the disease twice.

Q

What are fungi and protist diseases

A

Fungal cells are much more similar to plant and animal cells than bacteria
Protist are small single celled organisms that are relatively rare pathogens

17
Q

What is malaria

A

Caused by protist pathogens that are parasites - female mosquitos
Caused by recurrent episodes of fever and shaking weakens person over time
Controlled by using intsectides to kill mosquitos in homes and offices
