What is Measles?

A

Measles virus is spread by droplet infection and it attacks the immune cells. It causes fever, red skin rash and can be fatal. There is no cure but isolation and vaccination when young prevents spread.

What is HIV?

A

HIV is a virus, directly spread from sexual contact or exchange of body fluids. I directly attacks the human immune system. There is no cure but it can be controlled it won’t go into the late stages of AIDS.

What is Tobacco Mosaic Virus?

A

TMV is a virus that infects many species of plants. Causes parts of the plants leaves become discoloured, this stops photosynthesis.

What is Salmonella?

A

Salmonella is a bacteria that causes food poisoning. Infected people suffer from fevers, stomach cramps, vomiting. They caused by toxins bacteria produce. Get it from contaminated food. In the UK poultry is given a vacination against salmonella.

What is Gonorrhoea?

A

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacteria. Passed on through sexual contact. People with it will get pain when urinating. Gonorrhoea is treated by penicillin but the bacteria is becoming resisitant. Stopped through contreception (condoms).

What is Rose Black Spot (Fungi)?

A

Is a fungus that causes purple or black spots to develop on leaves on rose plants, then they turn yellow and fall off. This stops photosynthesis. Spreads through water and wind. Gardeners can treat by fungicides and strripping the plant of the infected leaves.

What is Malaria?

A

Malaria is a Protist, they are picked up by mosquitos when they feed on infected animals. Every time the feed on a new animal they infect it. It cause repeating episodes of fever and can be fatal. The spread can be stopped by stopping mosquitos breeding. People are protected through insecticides and mosquito nets.
