Back muscles Flashcards
(39 cards)
Trapezius origin
Occipital bone
T1 and C7 and all Tx vertebrae
Trapezius insertion
Lateral 1/3 clavicle\Spine of scapula andacromion
Trapezius action
Spine extension\Lateral spine flexion.Mid fibres\Md fibres retract and stabilize scapula
Lower fibres depress and upwardly rotates scapula
Upper traps elevates
Trapezius useful information
The insertions for the traps are the origins for the delts
palm tree side flex yoga
Quadratus lumboru
m origin
posterior iliac crest
Quadratus lumborum insertion
Last rib\Transverse process of L1-4
Quadratus lumborum action
Spine Extension
Lateral spine flexion
(laterally tilts pelvis)
yoga stretch palm tree to sides /side plank
Called the quadratus as it is 4 sided in shape and attached to the back hence lumborum. It is a muscle of the thorax and it draws down the last rib opening the thorax.
Levator Scapula origin
C1 to C4 from transverse process
Levator Scapula insertion
medial border scapula upper part
Levator Scapula action
lateral spinal flexion elevates shoulder extends and rotates neck rotates scapula YOGA shoulder stand
Rhomboids Major origin
T2-T5
Rhomboids Major insertion
medial border scapula below Rhomboid minor
Rhomboids Major action
scapula rotation elevation and adduction or retraction
YOGA ardha Matsyendrasana
Rhomboids Minor origin
T1 and C7
Rhomboids Minor insertion
medial border of the scapula
Rhomboids Minor action
scapula rotation elevation and adduction or retraction
YOGA gomukhasana /matseyandrasana
Erector Spinae origin
posterior sacrum and iliac crest ribs and vetebrae
Erector Spinae insertion
ribs vertebrae and mastoid process
Erector Spinae action
spinal extension lateral spine flexion
Erector Spinae useful information
this is a group of muscles which can be divided into longissimus iliocostalia and spinalis
YOGA paschimottonasana/locust/cobra
Large set of groups of muscles that support the head neck spine and rib cage
Multifidus origin
illium sacrum and transverse processes of the vertebrae
Multifidus insertion
spinous processes of vertebrae 3 levels above
Multifidus action
spinal rotation spinal extension
Multifidus useful information
they look like stitches. deepest layer of muscle along the spine. yoga stretch. 1. abs exercises lyng down. 2. broomstick on shoulder twist from side to side
