Q

previous research on localization of function

A

the hippocampus and insula have each been identified in at least two Studies.

  • in a study participants meditated while in a FMRI scanner and the hippocampus was especially active.

-grey matter increases in key brain structures when people learn new knowledge or skills and it and it may be linked to wellbeing

Q

Measuring changes in Grey Matter

A

Voxel:
in simpler words, a cube within a 3D model. similar to how a pixel is a part of a 2D image.
Morphometry:
quantitative analysis of a form.

A voxel-based morphometry is a process where different tissues of the brain (like white matter, or grey matter) are mapped onto a template

This is to monitor changes/differences in the structure of the brain.
(in this study, they compare the brains of meditators vs non mediators)
