bacteria .. Flashcards
(24 cards)
Non communicable disease
Non communicable diseases are also known as chronic diseases and are made up of a long duration and is caused by a combination of genetic, physiological environmental and behavioural factors.
Communicable disease
is a disease caused
by a pathogen as is considered
contagious.
Congenital
Is a disease that
an individual is born with
Aquired
is a disease that
the individual was not born
with
What 2 subtypes are acquired diseases divided into
Communicable(contagious)
Non communicable (not contagious)
Eg of non communicable diseases
Cardiovascular disease (heart and brain)
Cancers
Respiratory diseases (Asthma, COPD)
Metabolic diseases (Diabetes, blood pressure, arthritis)
Bacteria
Are prokaryotic organsims
What kind of forms does bacteria come in
Good and bad (probiotics and pathogenic)
What does bacteria use for protection
bacteria has a slimy capsule to protect itself from white cells
What does bacteria have that fungi doesnt
some bacteria has a tail , some but not all
Prokaryotes
cells that have no membrane bound nucleus
Eukaryotes
cells that have a nucleus
Fungi
organisms that help decompose dead or decaying matter and some cause disease, such as mushrooms and moulds
what is an example of a suitable substance used to kill pathogens on a tabletop
Bleach
what is not a way that pathogens can be introduced to an orgnaism
A bacteria sitting on intact skin
What is fungi classified as
Decomposer or parasite
How does coloured fungi effect humans and animals
toxic to animals and mammals
endospores
A
an asexual spore that allow bacteria to survive in hostile environments
antigen
a substance that triggers an immune response
antibody
Antibodies are protective proteins produced by your immune system. They attach to antigens such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and toxins — and remove them from your body
endo vs ecto parasite
A
Endoparasites live inside an organism, and ectoparasites live on the surface of the host.
What is a host
Organism living in a relationship with another organism
What conditions do bacteria like to repdouce in ?
warm and wet
How do bacteria reproduce ?
Through binary fission
