Syphilis is caused by
Treponema pallidum
Signs of primary syphilis
Chancre appears within 2 to 8 weeks after infection

When does primary syphilis heal?
After 8 to 9 weeks without scarring
Secondary syphilis
Occurs 1 to 4 months after infection.
•Malaise fever lymphadenopathy followed by rash and stomatitis

•Devastating stage
•Involves multiple systems
•Passed from mother to child during prenancy
•Gumma of palate
Can tertiary syphilis cure
Heals with severe scarring but may destort soft palate and destroy uvula
