Bandura - Social Learning Theory Flashcards
(8 cards)
According to Bandura how does behaviour develop?
By observation and then matching what they have seen
What are the strengths of social learning theory?
A lot of evidence exists to support his theory
It shows how reinforcement does not need to take place for behaviour to be learnt
What are the weaknesses of the social learning theory?
Only shows short term effects, it is difficult to state in observation of aggressive role models
Cannot account for crimes where observation is unlikely - murder
Why is paying attention important for Bandura’s theory?
When learning something new they must need and want to pay attention to it
Why is retention of observations important in Bandura’s theory?
They must be able to store the new information in their memory
Why is reproduction of observations important for Bandura’s?
People must be able to successfully reproduce and this might involve practising something new
Why is motivation important for Bandura’s theory?
The reproduction of a behaviour only comes about when someone is motivated?
What does identification occur?
When the individual ultimately takes on teh same values and beliefs of their role model
