A form that accompanies a deposit and lists the items deposited - currency, coin or check
Deposit Slip
One of your own personal checks that gets stamped and signed by a bank official guaranteeing that the money is in your account
Certified Check
Each check is identified by a number that is assigned by the American Bankers Association
ABA Number
A separate form on which the deposits keeps a record of deposits and payments including checks, ATM withdraws and Debit Card payments
Bank Reconciliation
A card, kept by the bank that shows the signatures of all individuals authorized to draw checks against the account
Signature Card
An endorsement that limits the use of a check to the purpose given in the endorsement
Restricted Endorsement
A fee a bank charges for handling a checking account
Service Change
An endorsement including the name of the person to whom the check has been transferred
Special Endorsement
An endorsement consisting of only the endorser’s name
Blank Endorsement
The owner of the account and the person who signs the check
Drawer
The crime of writing another person’s signature on a check without his or her authority
Forgery
The person to whom the check is written
Payee
The bank or other financial institution in which the account is held
Drawee
Writing a check for more money than is in one’s account
Overdrawing (bounced)
A place where member banks exchange check to clear them
Clearinghouse
Checks that have been paid by the bank and returned to you with your monthly bank statement
Cancelled Checks
Checks that have not been deducted from the bank statement balance
Outstanding Checks
The money earned on funds deposited in a savings account
Interest
Bringing your checkbook balance and bank statement into agreement
Bank Reconciliation
A report sent by the bank to a depositor showing the status of his or her account–checks that have been paid, deposits or bank fees
