What does it mean to believe?
a. Faith-Assurance hoped for and the connection of things not seen (Heb. 11:1)
b. 2 types of faith
- Experience of faith (trust)
- Content of faith (Doctrine ,creeds)
What does it mean to know God?
-most people know God subjectively
a. Knowledge of Gods essential being (the way God knows himself is impossible)
b. Knowledge of God is united to two means
Faith- Gods self revelation-makes himself known through scripture

What being of Faith does one need to be Christian?
- Experience and content
- protects the true apostolic memory of scripture
What is Theology? Today?
a.Reasoning about study of God
b. Modern Theology- Englighnment-reasoning on basic
Post Enlightenment- age of skepticism
c. Postmodern theology- Failure of modernity
- Utopian idealism, social experimentation- e.g. Marxism, communism, fascism, secularsim
- Tragic loss of life- 2 world wars
Today- return to a study of God based on the essential ideas of the christian faith
What is task of theology?
The task of theology is to investigate the christian revelation through its sources and to provide a consistent and coherent account of the christian faith.
Why should we study God?
-The apostles study God and their successors

I believe in God the father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
