Seam allowance
The width of your seam, from stitch line to edge of fabric (the edge)
Fabric grain
The direction of the threads that are woven in the fabric
bias
45 degree angle to the straight grain is a bias cut in sewing
straight grain
the straight grain runs parallel to the selveage
selvage
the bound edges of the fabric thatare created when the wwft threads are woven back and forth in the wiven process
Nap
fuzzy fabric

light weight material for inside projects
facing
partial lining used in areas such as the opening

help to shape fabric around curved areas
backstitch
reverse stitching st the end snd beginning
clipping
cut the sesm allowance paralell to the seam
top stitching
a decorative or functional stitch that is done one the outside of the seam after it is turned
notches
used to line up two or more pieces of fabric that you will be joining together
