Less … than
As … as
To form the superlative in French, we use the following structures:

…Plus translates to the most
…Moins translates to the least
The following sentances use superlatives
Translate from French to English the following examples
- Ma mère est la plus **petite.
- Il est le plus grand de la famille
- Ces chaussures sont** les moins** chères
Remeber when using a superlative, ….plus becomes **the most **
- My mum is the shortest
- he is the tallest in the family
- These shoes are the least expensive/ these shoes are the cheapest
There are a couple of irregular comparison words in French:
meilleur / meilleure / meilleurs / meilleures que
→ better than
pire / pires que
→ worse than
le meilleur / la meilleure / les meilleur(e)s
→ the best
le pire / la pire / les pires
→ the worst
*Note that both meilleur and pire agree in gender and number with the noun they describe
Here are some examples:
Le forum des Halles est meilleur que le Printemps. - The forum des Halles is better than the Printemps (they are both shops)
Quelle est la meilleure boulangerie? - What is the best bakery?
Ce magasin offre les pires rabais. - This shop offers the worst discounts.
