At what age can you start giving patient water via NGT? And why?
6 months. Younger patients’ organs are not developed. They are prone to hypernatremia. This might affect the kidney.
After how many days should you change a burette?
4 days
After how many days should you change a normal saline bag?

Why do you need to ask if patient was hospitalised for the past 1 year?
If yes, need to do CRE.
Sedated patients what are the vitals frequency?
Every 15mins until pt wakes up. Then hourly.
Aft operation, usually what is the frequency of vitals?
hrly x6

what do they stand for?
E - explain and observe
P - pain and position
E - elimination (offer assistance if required)
E - environment (check the environment and items are in reach)
P - plan the timing for subsequent activity and inform patient of plan
When do you do EPEEP and how often?
- during rounds
- 2 hourly
Using CHILD, what should you monitor when pt is on IV cannula?
Colour (discolouration)
Heat (warm to touch)
Increase in size (swelling)
Leakage
Discomfort
What are the likely complications that may arise w IV cannula?
- Phlebitis (inflammation of vein)
- Infiltration (infusion of fluid and/or meds outside the intravascular space into the surrounding soft tissue)
- Extravasation (leakage)
