What is Descriptive Stats?
Refers to the methods used to summarize and describe the central features of a dataset.
A retail store conducts a survey asking customers to rate their experience on a scale of 1 to 10. Is this inferential or descriptive?

What is inferential Stats?
Involves using data from a sample to make generalizations about a larger population.
A health survey of 200 adults finds that 40% have high blood pressure. Is this inferential or descriptive stats?
Inferential Stats.
What’s Population?
Is the group of people who you are interested in knowing about.
What’s a Sample?
A subset of the population from which the data is actually obtained.
What is Nominal data?
Is a categorical data type, describes characteristics or groups, has no order or rank.
What are examples of Nominal data?
-Gender
-Ethnicity
-Type of transportation (cars, motor cycles, bus..), television, computer
-political candidate preference etc
What is Ordinal data?
Can be order and ranked, but no meaningful way of specifying the distance in between rankings. Can’t use it for computations.
What are examples of Ordinal Data?
-Educational level (High school, GED, College)
-Income level (low, middle, high)
-Level of agreement (strongly agree, agree, neutral)
-Political orientation (far left, left, centre, right, far right)
What is Interval ratio data?
Is numerical data type, measured in numbers, has an order.
What are examples of Interval ratio?
-Credit scores (300-850)
-IQ scores
-GPA scores
-Temperature in Fahrenheit
-Weight, Height, or length
-Length of time (seconds, minutes, hours)
A researcher records the types of pets owned by a group. What kind of data is this?
Nominal Data.
The amount of enrolled students at a university. What kind of data is this?
Ordinal Data.
