What are the protective layers of the Central Nervous System?
Scalp and skin, Skull and vertebral column, Meninges, Cerebrospinal fluid, Blood brain barrier
What are the three layers of the meninges?
- Dura mater (tough mother)
- Arachnoid
- Pia mater (gentle mother)
What is the function of the dura mater?
A double-layered membrane that surrounds the brain.
What is the arachnoid layer?
A layer with threadlike extensions that look like cobweb.
What is the pia mater?
A layer that clings tightly to the surface of the brain and spinal cord, following every fold.
What is the subarachnoid space?
The space that contains cerebrospinal fluid.
What is the periosteum dura mater?
The part of the dura mater attached to the surface of the skull.
What is the meningeal dura mater?
The outer covering of the brain.
