Located near Leeds and Bradford in West Yorkshire, UK.
What is the main problem in Batley?
Big social divide between different ethnic groups where 25% of the population are Commonwealth or Pakistani, 40% of Asian males had jobs in comparison with 70% White males due to language barriers.
Why are ethnic minorities found in the inner city in clusters and white people are located in the suburbs?
The inner city is the cheapest part of the city due to dereliction, poor sanitation etc, attracting low income ethnicities. The suburbs are expensive and reliant on cars and many of those minors cannot afford the housing or the cars.
What was implemented to tackle the social segregation?
The Al Hashim Academy which was a secondary school dedicated to Muslims.
Annual Batley Festival which celebrates multiculturalism.
