Batons: Target Areas Flashcards
(5 cards)
What areas of the arms should be targeted when delivering baton strikes?
Radial Nerve
Median Nerve
Identify the specific location of each of the target areas of arm strikes
Radial nerve: approximately 2 inches below the elbow joint on top of the forearm
Median nerve: located inside the forearm, at the base of the wrist, just above the heel of the hand. Strike at the centre of the wrist
What are the three target areas of leg strikes?
Femoral Nerve
Tibial Nerve
Common peroneal nerve
Identify location of each target area of leg strikes
Femoral Nerve: travels inside the thigh. Striking point lies half between the groin and the knee
Tibial Nerve: the lower branch of the sciatic nerve. Starts just above the back of the knee and through down the calf muscle. A strike should be delivered to the top of the calf
Common peroneal nerve: branches off the sciatic nerve just above the rear of the knee and then travels around the outside of the knee. This is the most accessible of the three motor nerve points in the leg. A strike should be delivered to the outer thigh, approximately 4 inches above the knee
What are the two critical aspects of delivering a baton strike?
The angle of the delivery and the length of time on target
