BC1B Flashcards
(10 cards)
Oxidoreductases
Enzymes catalysing oxidation, reduction or dehydrogenation (e.g. lactate dehydrogenase)
Transferases
These catalyse group transfer reactions (e.g.
Kinases )
Hydrolases
Catalysing transfer of
groups to H2O (e.g Trypsin)
Lyases
Enzyme promoting addition to double bonds or the reverse (e.g Fumarase)
Isomerases
Enzymes catalysing rearrangement reactions (e.g. Triose phosphate isomerase)
Ligases (synthetases)
Catalyse condensation with simultaneous cleavage of ATP Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase
Allosteric regulation
The regulation of a protein by binding an effector molecule at a site other than the enzyme’s active site. The site to which the effector binds is termed the allosteric site (e.g. ATP, inhibitor of PKF, lowering the affinity of F6P)
Retro aldol reaction
Reverse of an aldol reaction, catalyzed by aldolase
Chemically-coupled reactions
Sum of the free-energy changes of the individual steps
Gluconeogenesis
Glucose synthesis from pyruvate during times of starvation
