BEAUTY STANDARDS Flashcards
(2 cards)
Speech 1
First of all we have to know what beauty standards really are. Beauty standards are perceptions of beauty imposed by society. People often try to fit into these ideals by following unreal trends and body figures that are most of the time unhealthy.
Speech 2
Talking about modernity, there is an aspect that we haven’t mentioned yet: social media. Over the past few years, it has played a fundamental role in people’s daily lives. While we’re scrolling, we constantly see perfect (and many times filtered) images of models and actresses. This constant exposure can increase insecurity and discomfort with our own bodies. Therefore, many people struggle with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and other mental health issues. It’s crucial to make these problems visible and to promote self-acceptance, regardless of how others look, to start accepting ourselves the way we are.
Nevertheless, as Male said previously, there is a positive shift: inclusivity in the entertainment industry is slowly becoming more common. Nowadays, we are starting to see more representation of different body types, ethnicities, genders, and identities in movies, TV shows, advertisements, and social media campaigns. This helps promote healthier self-esteem and more realistic beauty standards.
