Behaviourism - key terminology Flashcards
UCR - unconditioned response
in classical conditioning, a reflexive response produced by a specific stimulus, such as pupil contraction to a bright light
UCS - unconditioned stimulus
in classical conditioned, a stimulus which provokes an reflexive (unconditioned response)
NS - neutral stimulus
in classical conditioning, a stimulus which initially produces no specific response other than provoking attention; as conditioning proceeds, the neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus.
CS - conditioned stimulus
in classical conditioning, a stimulus which by repeated pairings with an unconditioned stimulus comes to elicit a conditioned response.
CR - conditioned response
in classical conditioning, a response to a previously neutral stimulus which has become a conditioned stimulus by repeated pairing with an unconditioned stimulus.
