Why did Mansa Musa take a pilgrimage to Mecca?
Because he was a Muslim; demonstrated Mali’s wealth.
What role did the Sahara Desert play in trade?
Acted as a barrier until they began to use camel caravans for trans-Saharan trade.

Leader of the Mongols that had superior horsemanship skills.
What was the Mongolian Empire?
Large empire that spanned from China to Eastern Europe and facilitated trade along the Silk Road.

Explorer that wrote about the Yuan Dynasty and sparked European interest in China.
