How do fibroadenomas present?
- firm, non tender and highly mobile

- firm
- mobile
- tender / non tender
- fluctuates with the menstrual cycles

2. Aspiration
how does fibrocystic disease present?
- condition of breast where there is pain, cysts and masses
- bilateral cyclical pain
- breast swelling
- palpable mass/heaviness
- Breasts are ‘doughy’ and heavy
- changes occur with the menstrual cycle
What is ‘Phyllodes tumour’?
- leaf like tumor
- grows rapidly
- usually benign but occasionally malignant
How does a breast abscess present?
- erythematous
- tender
- fluctuant
- patient may be systemically unwell
what are breast abscess associated with?
smoking
management of breast abscess
- aspiration
2. antibiotic therapy
What is mastitis?
- infection of the breast
- staph aureus infection
- assoc with breast feeding women
how does mastitis present?
erythema
tender, hot
What is mastalgia?
breast pain
what could mastalgia be caused by?
- cyclical pre menopausal/pubertal pain
2. contraceptive pills and HRT
What is gynaecomastia?
- hyperplasia of stromal/ductal tissue of the male breast
2. unilateral, concentric tender swelling
which drugs can cause gynaecomastia?
- spirnolactone
- warfarin
- digoxin
- ppi
- h2 antagonist
