meeting the baby for the first time
- All mothers have skin to skin contact with their baby after birth, at least until after the first feed for as long as they wish.
- All mothers are encouraged to offer the first feed in skin contact where the baby shows signs of readiness to feed.
- Mothers and babies who are unable to have skin to skin immediately are commenced to encourage skin to skin as soon as possible
how should baby be in skin to skin
position them upright on your chest, ensuring their head is turned to one side and their chin is away from their chest to maintain a clear airway.
