(39 cards)
Manifestation of Bi Syndrome
Soreness, pain, numbness, heavy sensation of the body, limbs, joints and muscles and limitation of movements
Definition of Bi Syndrome
Painful obstruction syndrome
obstruction of Qi and blood in meridian and collaterals due to an invasion of exogenous pathogenic factors
Chief Pathology of Bi Syndrome
Obstruction of the meridians
Painful muscles and joints of limbs, mostly related to weather change
Absences of muscular dystrophy
SnS of Bi Syndrome
SnS of Wei Syndrome
Weakness of limbs, muscular atrophy, paralysis, absence of pain, no relationship to the weather change
Polyneuritis, syringomyelia (generic term referring to a disorder in which a cyst or cavity is formed w/i spinal cord, ALS, MS, progressive muscular dystrophy, Myasthenia gravis, poliomyelitis
Western diseases associated with Wei Syndrome
Western diseases associated with Bi Syndrome
Rheumatic or Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis
Sudden collapse and loss of consciousness, deviation of the mouth and eye, slurred speech, weakness of the limbs with limitation of movement due to paralysis, impairment of sensation
Sns of Wind Stroke
Chief pathology of Wind Stroke
Disorder of Qi, Blood, Yin and Yang, and Zang Fu Organ, Xie Qi attacks the head and blocks the clear orifice
Wandering or fixed pain in joints/muscles
aggravated in damp cold weather or places - alleviated by warmth
Sensitive to weather changes. Severity change from time to time
Painful area may have a cold sensation, aversion to wind and swelling, joint is not red. Joints/muscle might feel weak, mobility okay.
Wind-Cold-Damp Bi
Tongue and Pulse of Wind Cold Damp Bi Syndrome?
Tongue Body: Normal
Coating: thin/thick, white, sticky
Pulse: Wiry, tight or soggy
POT Wind Cold Damp Bi
Disperse Wind, Warm cold and eliminate Dampness
SnS of Wind Damp Heat Bi
Acute onset
Wandering or fixed, severe pain in the joints with limited movement
Limitation of movement which will be gone after swelling disappears
*Joints are red, swollen and warm to touch
POT of Wind Damp Heat Bi
Disperse Wind, eliminate Damp and clear heat
Tongue and pulse of Wind, Damp Heat Bi?
Tongue Body: Red tip
Coat: Thin/thick, yellow and sticky
Pulse: Rapid and slippery
Swelling, rigidity, deformity and restricted movements of the joints (permanent)
Pain in the fixed joints if intermittent or changes from time to time
Worse in early morning, at night, and cloudy, rainy days
Better after movement
SnS of stagnation of Phlegm and Blood
Tongue and Pulse of Stagnation of Phlegm and blood
Body: Purple
Coat: White
Pulse: Thready, Choppy
POT of Stagnation of Phlegm and blood
Eliminated phlegm, remove blood stasis
Liver and Kidney Xu SnS
Wandering or fixed pain in the joints and or muscles that is aggravated by overstrain or stressed. Alleviated by rest.
Severity of pain changes from time to time. (Could combine with different types of Bi)
Tongue and Pulse of Liver Kidney Xu
Tongue Body: Red/Pink
Coat: Scanty, or thin white
Pulse: Thready, rapid or slow
POT of Liver and Kidney Xu
Tonify Liver and Kidney
Wind Cold Damp Bi
Wind Damp Heat Bi
Liver Kidney Xu
Stagnation of Phlegm and blood
4 different types of Bi Syndrome
wandering pain in the joints, limitation of movements
chilliness and fever
Tongue: thin and white
Pulse: superficial tight/superficial moderate
Wind Bi
Severe pain in the joints, alleviated by warmth and aggravated by cold, fixed localization but no local redness and hotness limited movement
coldness of limbs, lack of perspiration
Tongue: Thin and white, pale
Pulse: wiry and tight
Cold Bi
