double jeopardy
condition of being tried a second time for the same crime
incriminate
make a person appear guilty of a crime
grand jury
a group of citizens who decide whether there is enough evidence against a person to bring him or her to trial
impartial jury
group of citizens sworn to give a bias-free verdict in a trial, who have nothing to gain or lose as a result of the outcome of the case

legal document issued by a judge authorizing actions such as search, seizure, or arrest

Establishment Clause
the part of the First Amendment that says the government cannot declare an official religion
free exercise clause
the part of the First Amendment that says the government may not stop anyone from holding any religious beliefs they choose and may not unfairly or unreasonably limit anyone’s right to practice their religious beliefs
due process of law
A requirement stated in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments that treatment by state and federal governments in matters of life, liberty, or property of individuals be reasonable, fair, and follow known rules and procedures.
