Remote sensing and satellite monitoring
show us global patterns of change and hotspots.
The Keeling Curve
1958: Charles David Keeling’s team recorded atmospheric CO2 levels at Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. The project continues today.
Recombinations
represent unusual combinations that we are unlikely to see, due to the gene linkage.
Linked Genes
Rarely, genes are linked; they tend to be inherited together. This would be because they are so close on the chromosome(their location are close)
polygenic
it is a combination of multiple genes that give us a phenotype.
Phenotypic Plasticity
the ability to be shaped or molded by your environment
Genotype
alleles received
Phenotype
expression of alleles, which are affected by environment
true-breeding
FF or ff
Proliferating
making copies
Gap 1 (G1)
is when the cell grows in size and does its normal work.
Protein synthesis, support of the organism
Synthesis (S) Phase:
In the nucleus, DNA replication occurs, to prepare for cell division.
Gap 2 (G2) Phase
Cell continues to grow, and makes microtubules and other proteins for division.
It is also a checkpoint to ensure DNA was replicated accurately.
Control of the cell cycle
The cell cycle is tightly regulated by proteins called cyclins
Cyclins bind with:
They bind and activate cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) enzymes that drive the cycle forward.
Conserved genes
genes that remain identical along lost periods time, hyper at multiple evolutions.
