Q

what are the steps to making a temporary slide

A

1- put the object on glass slide and make sure its small enough to fit under the cover slip
2- drop water on the object
3- with forceps (tweezers) place the cover slip over the object
(if there are large water bubbles drop water right next to the cover slip)

Q

how do you stain a slide

A

1- make a temporary slide and the cover slip MUST be flat
2- drop lodine on one side of the cover slip
3- use the paper towel square on the other side to pull it through
(you can clean this uses lens paper)

Q

how do you find an object on the low power objective

A

1- adjust the diaphragm
2- bring the stage all the way up
3- move the course adjustment slowly till the object comes into focus
4- use the fine adjustment to bring out detail and make it cleaner

Q

how do you fins an object on the high power objective

A

1- find it on low power first
2- without moving the stage turn to high power
3- center the object
4- use the fine adjustment only to bring out the detail
never use the course adjustment

17
Q

define optical microscope

A

Any microscope that used light to form an image

18
Q

define examples of optical microscope

A

microscope, magnify glass, camera, binoculars, telescope, and glasses

19
Q

define stereomicroscope

A

used to view external structures and used in direction. Provides a 3D image. The magnification is 10x - 60x. The advantages is that it provides the 3D image. The disadvantage is that it only has 10x - 60x

20
Q

define total magnification

A

found by multiplying the eyepiece times the objective (low - 10 / high - 40)

21
Q

what are the 5 characteristics of an electron microscope

A

1- it uses electrons to form an image
2- it can only be used on non-living things
3- some will provide a flat image (transmission), and some a 3D image(scanning)
4- the higher the magnification, the better the resolution
5- it can magnify up to 2,000,000x

22
Q

what color is the high power objective

23
